Does compression help reduce muscle soreness after training?
In this paper the researchers took a group of healthy amateur athletes and split them into two groups. Both groups carried out an exercise program designed to test the muscles to fatigue by doing maximal weight isometric and eccentric exercises.
Group 1 then used compression clothing and group 2 did not.
Strength was measured before exercise to establish a base line then at 24hrs, 48hrs, 72hrs and 96hrs as well as questionnaires about their perceived pain levels.
”The compression group had a faster recovery of maximal isometric strength following exercise and lower muscle soreness during the recovery period
Use compression clothing to help speed up recovery and reduce muscle soreness. IN this study athletes wore the compression sleeves for 24 hours but studies show that wearing them immediately after training for anything over 4 hours will provide benefits. Alternatively you can were them whilst you sleep.
